Polstat STIS students, who attend one of Indonesia's civil service universities, are not only intellectually competent but also deeply concerned about the environment and their surrounding communities. One example of this commitment is the Underdeveloped Village Development (PDT) initiative. This annual activity, which has been running since 2014, is attended by students from the Community Service and Environmental Awareness Student Activity Unit (UKM PMKL). UKM PMKL is a forum for Polstat STIS students who wish to distribute social assistance as a form of community service. This year's program included a community service activity in a region in Lebak Regency.

Ciwahayu Cigalak Village is one of the underdeveloped areas located in Mekar Manik Village, Bojong Manik District, Lebak Regency, Banten Province. One of the main obstacles in this village is the severely damaged road conditions. This hampers community access to other areas, especially since the area lacks adequate health and education facilities. The road from Rangkasbitung to Bojong Manik District is still in fairly good condition, as it is still paved, albeit with steep and winding roads. However, conditions change as you enter Mekar Manik Village and head towards Ciwahayu Village. The steep and winding road becomes difficult to navigate due to its rocky surface and large potholes. This limited road access undoubtedly impacts the socioeconomic conditions of the local community and is one of the main causes of the area's underdevelopment.

This village, home to 76 families, also faces educational limitations. The nearest elementary school is located in the neighboring district, approximately three kilometers from the village. The damaged road requires elementary school children to walk for one to two hours to reach the nearest school. This situation means that until the age of eight, these children are unable to enroll in elementary school because they are not yet strong enough to walk such long distances. "Because the road is damaged in several areas in Mekar Manik Village, repairs in Ciwahayu Cigalak Village have not yet been funded by village funds. Furthermore, the village budget cannot be fully used for physical development," explained H. Aliyudin, Head of Mekar Manik Village. "The school dropout rate is also high; children usually don't go on to junior high school after graduating from elementary school because the village is remote and there's no public transportation," he added. Economically, most of the residents of Ciwahayu Cigalak Village are farm laborers. To support their economy, they make various bamboo crafts. However, difficult road access also hinders product marketing. This situation ultimately motivated Polstat STIS students to target Ciwahayu Cigalak Village for aid in 2019. Around 60 Polstat STIS students provided hygiene kits to 76 families in Ciwahayu Cigalak Village. Furthermore, the activity, which took place from August 5-8, 2019, also focused on providing basic necessities and suitable clothing to residents, as well as the inauguration of a public toilet (MCK) that had been previously built using funds collected from donors. It is hoped that with the presence of this public toilet and education on Clean and Healthy Living Patterns (PHBS), particularly regarding the dangers of open defecation, the local community will become more aware of their own health and that of their environment. Furthermore, students collaborated with the Integrated Health Post (Posyandu) and the Bojongmanik District Community Health Center (Puskesmas) to conduct health checks and provide vitamin A to 22 toddlers.

These student activities were also integrated with Community Service activities conducted by five Polstat STIS lecturers: Neli Agustina, M.Sc.; Firdaus, MBA; Yaya Setiadi, SST, MM; Siskarossa Ika Oktora, M.Stat.; and Risni Julaeni Yuhan, M.Stat. Although integrated, the lecturers' activities focused on statistical outreach and education and economic guidance for Bojongmanik Village officials and teachers at SDN 1 Kadudamas in Cirinten District (the closest elementary school, accessible by children from Ciwahayu Cigalak Village, a 1-2 hour walk).

At SDN 1 Kadudamas, the lecturers explained the importance of utilizing statistical data, which teachers can use to support their activities and report on teacher and school performance. Furthermore, the lecturers also conducted classroom activities and interacted with students, particularly those from Ciwahayu Cigalak Village. The next activity was

The event took place at the Mekar Manik Village Office and was attended by village officials, women's groups (PKK), youth organizations (karang taruna), and other community representatives. In addition to providing statistical information, particularly on basic statistical reporting routinely collected by the Sub-district Statistics Coordinator (KSK) from the local Statistics Agency (BPS), the lecturers also provided information on the importance of community-provided data to support development in the area. Furthermore, with the upcoming establishment of a Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes), the lecturers encouraged the community, along with village officials, to utilize this institution to improve the local economy. The uniqueness of local products must be explored through technological advancements. Besides increasing added value, product marketing can also be facilitated through leveraging social media. Furthermore, the Village Head of Mekar Manik expressed his hope that Ciwahayu Cigalak Village could become a fostered area for relevant agencies.

The activities carried out by both students and lecturers of the Polstat STIS (Student and Statistical Institution) are expected to not only provide direct benefits to the recipients of assistance and information, but also to foster a sense of social responsibility.
