National Official Statistics Seminar 2024: Driving Data Innovation Towards a Golden Indonesia by 2045

Jakarta, September 19, 2024 – On Thursday, Politeknik Statistika STIS successfully held the 2024 National Seminar on Official Statistics as part of the celebration of National Statistics Day and the 66th Anniversary of AIS/STIS/Politeknik Statistika STIS. With the theme "Innovating High-Quality Statistical Data for Golden Indonesia 2045", the seminar featured prominent speakers in both panel and parallel sessions held in a hybrid format. The panel session took place at the Auditorium of Politeknik Statistika STIS, attended by the Principal Secretary of BPS RI, senior officials from BPS RI, leadership of Politeknik Statistika STIS, and other invited guests.
The event began with the Indonesian national anthem "Indonesia Raya", the Statistics March, and a Saman traditional dance performance, warmly welcoming the guests with a spirit of nationalism.
Dr. Ribut Nurul Tri Wahyuni, S.S.T., M.SE., as Chairperson of the Committee, expressed her hope that this event would serve as a platform to discover new insights and foster discussions that spark innovation in the field of statistics. She also reported that in this year's Call for Papers, Politeknik Statistika STIS received 131 papers, focusing on topics such as Official Statistics, Data Science, and Statistical Applications. These papers were presented in parallel sessions, spread across six on-site rooms and ten online rooms.
Keynote Address and Strategic Insights
The Keynote Speech was delivered by Dr. Eng. Imam Mahdi, M.T., Principal Secretary of BPS RI, representing the Acting Head of BPS RI. He highlighted the crucial role of statistics in realizing the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. His address showcased various innovations initiated by BPS, such as the use of Mobile Positioning Data (MPD) for tourism statistics and the Automated Identification System (AIS) for maritime transport statistics. He also acknowledged the contributions of Politeknik Statistika STIS in measuring extreme poverty at the regency/city level. Furthermore, he emphasized that with the enactment of Law No. 59 of 2024, BPS has a critical role in building an integrated national statistical system.

Engaging Panel Discussions with Expert Speakers
The panel discussion, serving as the core of the seminar, featured four renowned speakers who are experts in their respective fields. Moderated by Dr. Gama Putra Danu Sohibien, S.S.T., M.Si., the session proceeded in a lively and productive manner.
- Dr. Agung Indrajit, S.T., M.Sc., Head of Data and Information Center for Development Planning at Bappenas, discussed the role of data analytics in digital transformation, while emphasizing the importance of aligning artificial intelligence (AI) with Indonesia’s cultural context.
- Prof. Dr. Edi Cahyono, M.Si., a professor from Halu Oleo University, highlighted the application of statistics in supporting development toward Golden Indonesia 2045.
- Asep Suryahadi, S.P., M.A., Ph.D., from SMERU Research Institute, introduced causal inference methods for policy evaluation.
- Dr. Eng. Lya Hulliyyatus Suada from Politeknik Statistika STIS explained text mining techniques that support data-driven decision making, with practical applications such as web scraping and sentiment analysis.
The seminar not only broadened the participants' insights but also fostered constructive discussions. One of the hotly debated topics was the application of the XGBoost method in foresight strategies for the food sector. The session became even more interactive as participants raised questions regarding the challenges and future prospects of implementing such methods.
Closing Ceremony and Parallel Sessions
At the close of the panel session, each speaker was presented with a token of appreciation by Ms. Pudji Ismartini, Deputy of Distribution and Services Statistics, alongside Mr. Dadang Hardiwan, Inspector General of BPS RI, and Ms. Erni Tri Astuti. The session concluded with a group photo involving the speakers, invited guests, and participants, followed by a special performance by X-Bar, which enlivened the atmosphere.
The event then continued with parallel sessions, conducted both on-site and online, where all presenters delivered their papers.
Through this seminar, Politeknik Statistika STIS once again demonstrated its role as an educational institution that not only produces high-quality graduates but also actively contributes to statistical innovation in Indonesia. It is hoped that this seminar becomes a stepping stone toward achieving the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, with statistics as one of the main pillars of national development.
