Tuesday (18/3), Director of the STIS Statistics Polytechnic, Erni Tri Astuti, together with the Deputy Director for Financial Administration and the Deputy Director for Student Affairs, attended the invitation of the Badan Legislatif (BALEG) of the Indonesian House of Representatives as resource persons in the discussion of the Bill on Amendments to Law No. 16 of 1997 concerning Statistics. The event, which took place at the Nusantara Building of the Indonesian House of Representatives, aimed to gather input from various stakeholders in order to draft regulations that are more relevant to current developments, especially in the field of statistics. In the discussion session, Erni Tri Astuti provided several general inputs on the Bill, one of which was the need for a special chapter regulating Human Resources (HR) in the field of statistics. This chapter is expected to cover aspects of regulating statistical officers, competency certification, and the role of universities that organize statistics study programs. This is considered important to ensure that HR involved in organizing statistics have clear competencies and standards.

In addition, the speakers were also asked to provide views on several other crucial aspects, such as:

  • Modernization of statistics through strengthening human resources,
  • Implementation of the One Data policy,
  • Designing better statistical methodologies,
  • Supervision and guidance of sectoral and special statistics,
  • Compilation and acquisition of data,
  • Strengthening statistical human resources by professional organizations and universities.

Erni also highlighted the importance of the involvement of universities and professional organizations in organizing statistics. Therefore, there needs to be a regulation that accommodates the role of universities and professional organizations, especially in strengthening statistical human resources and organizing statistics in Indonesia.

Furthermore, Erni emphasized that the fulfillment of the need for competent human resources in the field of statistics, especially in Official State Statistics, still relies heavily on Civil Service Universities with vocational and professional programs. Therefore, strengthening the role of educational institutions in supporting national statistical policies is very important.

With this discussion, it is hoped that the new Bill on Statistics can accommodate various needs and challenges in the field of statistics, as well as create a more modern, accurate, and sustainable national statistics system.
