Jakarta, 22 November 2023 – Politeknik Statistika STIS held a meeting with the General Statistics Office (GSO) of Vietnam at the VVIP Room of the STIS campus. The meeting was attended by representatives from both institutions and was led by Dr. Erni Tri Astuti, Director of Politeknik Statistika STIS, along with Dr. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director General of the GSO of Vietnam.

The primary objective of the meeting was to introduce Politeknik Statistika STIS as a model for the development of a statistical campus and to exchange experiences in human resource development within the field of statistics. Dr. Nguyen Thi Huong expressed the GSO’s interest in using Politeknik Statistika STIS as a reference for establishing a statistical campus in Vietnam.

The event continued with a presentation on the profile of Politeknik Statistika STIS by Prof. Setia Pramana, Vice Director I for Academic Affairs. This was followed by an overview of student activities delivered by Vice Director III, Yunarso Anang Sulistiadi, Ph.D. Topics covered included the organizational structure, distinctions between the Diploma III and Diploma IV programs, as well as the internship and fieldwork programs conducted at STIS.

During the discussion session, the GSO of Vietnam raised several questions, such as the STIS entrance examination process, graduate service obligations, and faculty availability. In response, STIS conveyed that the institution currently has 71 permanent lecturers, supplemented by non-permanent lecturers from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) and various universities to support its educational mission.

In addition, the collaboration between Politeknik Statistika STIS and BPS was also highlighted, particularly in research initiatives such as the Small Area Estimation project, which was conducted by STIS and implemented by BPS. Beyond the development of statistical education, Politeknik Statistika STIS also emphasized the importance of character building for students. Vice Director III, Yunarso Anang Sulistiadi, Ph.D., explained that student activities at STIS are not solely focused on enhancing academic competence but also on nurturing leadership and discipline. Programs such as weekly flag ceremonies and leadership training are held to prepare students to become future leaders with integrity and competence.

Politeknik Statistika STIS also continues to innovate in its curriculum, one example being the integration of internship programs into the learning process. This allows students to gain practical experience in BPS offices across Indonesia, ensuring that graduates are not only theoretically proficient but also possess a deep understanding of real-world statistical practices. The General Statistics Office of Vietnam welcomed this approach and expressed hope for further collaboration, particularly in student and faculty exchange programs in the future.

The meeting concluded with the exchange of plaques between Politeknik Statistika STIS and the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, followed by a campus tour. It is hoped that this collaboration will continue and expand, especially in areas such as statistical development and emerging technologies like Big Data.
