Mahasiswa D3 Polstat STIS Siap Berkontribusi pada Pemetaan SP 2020

Polstat STIS's efforts to prepare its best graduates to be ready for work, supporting the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) as a trusted data provider, continue to expand. This is evidenced by the collaboration between the Diploma 3 Statistics Study Program and the Jakarta Statistics Agency (BPS) for the 2020 Population Census (SP 2020) mapping activities in East and South Jakarta.

On Tuesday (March 5th), a briefing session was held at the Polstat STIS Auditorium for 83 third-year Diploma 3 Statistics students who will be conducting the mapping activities. The briefing was attended by the leadership of the Jakarta Statistics Agency (BPS), including Ir. Thoman Pardosi, S.E., M.Si. (Head of BPS DKI Jakarta Province), Ir. Dwi Paramita Dewi, M.E. (Head of Administration), and Ir. Abdul Latif, M.M. (Head of the Integrated Processing and Dissemination Division of Statistics). Also in attendance was Ir. Banua Rambe, M.Si. (Head of the East Jakarta BPS) and Syarifuddin Nawie, S.Si., M.E. (Head of the South Jakarta BPS).

At the beginning of the event, the Director of Polstat STIS introduced the Diploma 3 Statistics Study Program as an educational program that produces graduates who are not only competent in statistics but also prepared to become census/survey coordinators and implementers. The course material in the Diploma 3 Statistics Study Program covers not only basic statistical theory but also official statistics, complemented by hands-on field practice. He also expressed his gratitude to the Jakarta BPS for facilitating the students' participation in this major ten-yearly event. He also advised the students to make the most of this activity and be diligent, especially in mastering concepts and definitions. This is because the mapping activities will be quite different from previous periods, which were based not only on census blocks but also on Local Environmental Units (SLS). These mapping activities will form the basis for future BPS activities.

In his presentation, the Head of the Jakarta Provincial Statistics Agency (BPS) emphasized that professionalism is crucial in carrying out collaborations, including with the Polstat STIS . This partnership not only supports BPS Jakarta activities but also provides students with the opportunity to gain real-world work experience. This activity is not a trial run or part of the students' fieldwork practice, so student participation in field management of mapping activities must adhere to quality and quantity standards. Therefore, during the partnership period, which runs from March 5 to May 24, 2019, students will be accountable to the leadership of BPS Jakarta Province, whose day-to-day activities will be handled by the leadership of the BPS city within their jurisdiction.

The students' assigned areas are East Jakarta and South Jakarta. One consideration in selecting these areas is proximity to the students' homes, which is expected to facilitate students' familiarity with their assigned areas. Of the 83 D3 Statistics students, 36 will be partners with BPS South Jakarta City, while the remaining 47 will be partners with BPS East Jakarta City.

Prior to the mapping, the students will participate in three days of training with other BPS partners. During their assignment, they are also required to submit daily activity reports to the Director of Polstat STIS and the Head of BPS DKI Jakarta Province every two weeks.

"Be careful when carrying out your duties; be serious. Our expectations of you (the students) are very high. The survey experience in DKI Jakarta is different from other regions. DKI Jakarta is highly complex. Learn as much as possible from this opportunity," added the Director of Polstat STIS at the end of the briefing.
