Commemorating National Disaster Preparedness Day, the STIS Polstat Student Regiment Holds a Seminar

There was a different atmosphere in the Polstat STIS Auditorium this morning, Friday (April 3rd). Several students were seen prostrating themselves under tables, holding their heads. In another corner, some appeared calm, hugging a support pole. Some turned their chairs to protect their heads, and one blew a whistle to signal a danger. They were apparently participating in a National Disaster Preparedness Day (HKBN) simulation held by the Polstat Statistics Battalion (Menwa) Student Regiment (Menwa) of the Polstat STIS.
The event opened with the singing of the national anthem "Indonesia Raya" and was followed by remarks from the Deputy Director III of Polstat STIS, Ir. Agus Purwoto, M.Si. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of this HKBN seminar in increasing students' knowledge of disaster awareness and preparedness, not only theoretically but also practically.
In addition to the 150 students, seven lecturers participating in the seminar also enthusiastically followed the simulation instructions from the speakers. The 2019 HKBN seminar invited Mr. M. Zaki from Jakarta Rescue as a resource person. The material presented covered flood mitigation measures and earthquake and tsunami preparedness. This presentation aimed to increase students' awareness, vigilance, and preparedness for disasters, particularly regarding the potential flooding that has recently hit Jakarta.
The material was delivered in a serious yet relaxed manner. Several speakers made jokes, which were met with laughter from the seminar participants. Cynthia Dwi, the chair of the committee, acknowledged that the enthusiasm of the seminar participants this year was higher than in previous years. This was evidenced by the large number of attendees and their active participation in several simulations conducted during the presentation.
In addition to the speakers from Jakarta Rescue, Mr. Basuki Rahmat, a representative from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), was also present. He greatly appreciated the event and hoped it could become a regular event. In his speech, he also expressed the BPBD's willingness to collaborate with Polstat STIS students in processing disaster-related data in Jakarta and conducting disaster-related research.
