The SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) are sustainable development goals agreed upon by many countries worldwide, including Indonesia. There are 17 goals and 169 targets expected to be achieved by 2030. In this regard, Polstat STIS held the 2019 National Official Statistics Seminar with the theme "Development of Official Statistics in Supporting the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals." The seminar was held on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, and was attended by participants from academics, students, and invited guests from other ministries and institutions.

The seminar opened with a keynote speech from the Head of the Statistics Indonesia (BPS RI), Dr. Suhariyanto. On this occasion, he stated that "The SDGs are a shared responsibility. Collaboration between ministries/institutions is crucial because numerous indicators must be produced as benchmarks for moving forward." Furthermore, the Head of BPS also emphasized the importance of One Data Indonesia, saying, "Without data, we are like walking without a lamp." He also discussed Big Data as a complement to the data generated, as well as Small Area Estimation (SAE) as a method for estimating indicators down to the small area level.

This national seminar was divided into two sessions: a panel seminar and a parallel seminar. The panel seminar, held in the Polstat Auditorium STIS, was moderated by Setia Pramana, Ph.D. The seminar began with a presentation of the results of the 58th batch of fieldwork internships. This was followed by speeches by Ir. Yudi Anantasena, M.Sc., from BPPT; Prof. Nicholas T. Longford from Imperial College London; and Siim Esko from Positium, Estonia. The three speakers discussed future challenges in supporting the implementation of the SDGs. Regarding the new era of food data, Yudi presented KSA technology, which uses satellite imagery and remote sensing to collect food data. Longford explained SAE, a solution for small-area data availability, and Esko presented material on Mobile Positioning Data, which is being implemented in Estonia. The seminar, attended by approximately 1,000 participants, was followed by a parallel seminar to present papers that had passed the previous Call for Papers. The parallel seminar provided a more in-depth discussion regarding the development of official statistics to support the implementation of the SDGs. All presented papers will be published in proceedings with a Digital Object Identifier (DOI). At the end of the event, the winners of the best paper, best presenter, and best poster categories were announced:
