Description :Politeknik Statistika STIS held a Dissemination Webinar for its 2020/2021 Internship Program on Friday, September 10, as part of the internship series conducted by 60th batch students. The webinar carried the theme:
“Synergy Across Distances to Achieve Better Quality and Performance — From Students for BPS.”
The event was attended not only by the academic community of Politeknik Statistika STIS, but also by the Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS RI), Dr. Margo Yuwono, S.Si., M.Si., who delivered the keynote speech. High-ranking officials from both BPS central and regional offices also participated in the online event.
The primary objective of this internship program is to enable students to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings and to gain hands-on experience by participating directly in BPS's statistical business processes. Additionally, the program serves a research purpose aimed at developing Official Statistics, particularly those implemented by BPS, in hopes that the results will be valuable both to the students and to the institution.
“Internships are an academic requirement for third-year students, usually conducted during the 5th and 6th semesters as outlined in the STIS curriculum,”
said Dr. Erni Tri Astuti, M.Math., Director of Politeknik Statistika STIS, in her opening remarks.
The internship process includes identifying data needs, designing methodologies, building measurement tools and systems, collecting field data, processing and analyzing data, disseminating results, and conducting evaluations.
Interestingly, Internship 60 (PKL 60) did not focus on just one topic but covered six diverse themes. Unlike previous years, PKL 60 was conducted entirely online, while students were geographically dispersed across Indonesia. “Despite being in different regions, students were able to carry out their internship using IT innovations—effectively rendering geographical boundaries irrelevant,” added the Director.
Candra Kurniawan, Chair of the PKL Committee, noted several challenges students faced, especially in coordinating via unstable internet connections and conducting data collection remotely.“These limitations were not obstacles, but rather fuel that drove the students to conduct meaningful research amid the pandemic,” he remarked.
In his keynote address, the Head of BPS RI, Dr. Margo Yuwono, stated that the students’ efforts during this internship were well aligned with the real challenges faced by BPS in the current era of disruption—referring to Industry 4.0, digital transformation accelerated by the pandemic, and the incoming wave of millennial employees. He expressed deep appreciation to the 60th batch of students for their commitment and contribution to the success of the internship.
The main session featured presentations of PKL findings by I Wayan Gede Angga Krismawan and Eka Arini Sangkuati, covering topics highly relevant to BPS operations such as:
- Employee job satisfaction at BPS,
- User satisfaction with statistical data,
- Disaster mitigation and preparedness,
- Online survey methodology, and
Development of an alumni database system for AIS/STIS/Politeknik Statistika STIS.
