Description :BPS Drives Data Revolution, Targets Ranking in the World's 20 Best NSOs Jakarta, June 20, 2025 – STIS Statistics Polytechnic held a public lecture entitled "Driving Data Revolution: Modernizing Official Statistics for Better Decision Making" with the speaker Deputy Head of BPS RI, Dr. Sonny Harry B Harmadi. In his speech, Dr. Sonny emphasized the importance of statistical modernization amidst the world's shift from databases to big data and survey integration. He also highlighted the transformation of National Statistics Offices (NSOs) in various parts of the world from traditional data providers to technology innovators, with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) throughout the statistical process. Indonesia has achieved the 38th best NSO ranking in the world thanks to the strength of its methodology, accuracy of estimates, and trust in the data produced. BPS is targeting to enter the world's top 20 in the next few years. One of the key initiatives is the development of the National Social and Economic Single Data (DTSEN). The discussion session featured student questions regarding the challenges of AI and the relevance of official statistics, as well as the application of administrative methods in Indonesia as an archipelagic country. Dr. Sonny explained that AI will make work easier and faster, so AI transformation must be structured so that BPS can produce better quality data. He also emphasized the importance of statistical literacy, especially for policy makers, to avoid misinterpretation of data. This public lecture underlined BPS's commitment to continue to innovate and adapt in providing quality data, in line with Dr. Sonny's message that "Numbers are not just numbers, but reflections of meaning and mirrors of reality". This modernization is essential to encourage better decision-making in the future.
