Description :Politeknik Statistika STIS held the 2022 Statistika Webinar Series on Friday (11/3), featuring Dr. Sarni Maniar Berliana, a lecturer at Politeknik Statistika STIS who recently earned her Doctorate in Statistics from the Department of Statistics, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Surabaya. The webinar presented her research titled “Modified Multivariate Generalized Poisson Regression Model (Case Study: Modeling Infant, Child, and Maternal Mortality in Java Island).” Moderated by Dr. Achmad Syahrul Choir, SST, M.Si., the webinar began with an overview of regression models and the third pillar of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), "Good Health and Well-being." Using data from SUPAS 2015 and SDKI 2017, the study applied a modified MGPR model—where the covariance, originally constant, was changed to a function of independent variables—to identify significant factors affecting mortality. The presentation included a thorough explanation of the modified model, from parameter estimation and hypothesis testing to application. It concluded that female education significantly influences mortality rates, underscoring the importance of women's empowerment. The session ended with a lively Q&A, and Dr. Sarni expressed hope that her findings would inform policy recommendations for institutions such as the Ministry of Health to improve maternal and child health in Indonesia.
