The Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Dr. Margo Yuwono, S.Si., M.Sc., inaugurated Prof. Setia Pramana, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. as Professor of Statistics at the Politeknik Statistika STIS. The inauguration ceremony took place in the Politeknik Statistika STIS Auditorium on Tuesday (December 27th). Successfully making history as the first professor at Politeknik Statistika STIS since its establishment in 1958, the event was attended by the Rector of Brawijaya University, the Deputy for Personnel Information Systems at the National Civil Service Agency (BKN), professors from several universities, high-ranking officials within the Central Statistics Agency, leaders of civil service universities, the professor's family, and invited guests from various institutions.

Welcoming this moment, the Director of Politeknik Statistika STIS, Dr. Erni Tri Astuti, M.Math., congratulated and expressed her appreciation for Prof. Setia's outstanding achievements. "The long journey and struggle to reach the highest career level in the academic world as a professor is certainly not easy, it requires extraordinary struggle and effort," he said. Not only that, he also believes that with high dedication and commitment, lecturers will soon follow to reach the highest level in the academic world because of the great potential they possess. This can be seen from the increasing number of scientific works from lecturers who collaborate with lecturers from other universities, as well as students who are able to publish their writings in reputable international scientific journals, which in total reaches 109 publications and 108 publications in accredited national journals.

"The higher the achievement or reputation of a university, one indicator is the increasing number of lecturers holding professorships," he added.

As a Professor, Prof. Setia Pramana, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. has achieved many impressive achievements. He has successfully participated in numerous national and even international seminars. Furthermore, he also served as a speaker at the UN Innovative Use of Social Media for Remote Sensing and SDGs Monitoring event organized by the UN Data World Forum. Together with Wiwin Srimulyani and Usman Bustaman, he co-authored a reputable international journal article in 2022 entitled "Developing an Online Shop Sampling Frame from Big Data." This article is one of many articles he has published in reputable international journals, accredited national journals, national and international proceedings, books, and newspapers.

In this event, Prof. Setia also delivered a scientific speech entitled “The Strategic Role of Statistics and Data Science in the Development of Artificial Intelligence for Precision Medicine and the Modernization of Official Statistics.” He explained briefly and concisely about artificial intelligence and its implementation in precision medicine and official statistics.

Not to be missed, after inaugurating Prof. Setia Pramana, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. as Professor of Statistics at the STIS Statistics Polytechnic, Dr. Margo Yuwono, S.Si., M.Si., also delivered remarks. In his remarks, he expressed his hope that the presence of a professor at BPS would foster creativity, innovation, and a stronger scientific spirit. "A professorship is the highest position a lecturer can attain, but it is not the end of a career," he said.

The inauguration of this professorship is expected to motivate us all to further develop ourselves, especially in the field of statistics, given the rapid development of data today. Furthermore, the presence of this professorship is also expected to further spur and support the STIS Statistics Polytechnic in its quest to become a world-class university.
