2021 National Official Statistics Seminar

As part of the 2021 National Statistics Day celebration, Politeknik Statistika STIS, in collaboration with the Directorate of Statistical Analysis and Development and the Public Relations and Legal Bureau of BPS, successfully held the National Seminar on Official Statistics on Saturday, September 25, 2021. The event was conducted via Zoom Meeting and YouTube livestream, with the theme: “Big Data Practice in the Public Sector.” This annual seminar featured one keynote speaker and four expert speakers in the field of big data governance in the public sector.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Margo Yuwono, S.Si., Head of BPS-Statistics Indonesia, emphasized the importance of strong collaboration between BPS and ministries/agencies, the private sector, academia, and the broader community in utilizing big data as an alternative source of new data.
The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. H. Syahrul Yasin Limpo, S.H., M.Si., M.H., Minister of Agriculture of Indonesia. The session was followed by the announcement of the 2021 BPS Awards and the official launch of the 2023 Agricultural Census logo.
The main seminar continued with four insightful presentations:
- Dr. Eng. Imam Machdi, M.T. presented on “Big Data Governance in BPS.”
- Dr. Edmon Makarim, S.Kom., S.H., LL.M. discussed “Cybersecurity Law.”
- Muhammad Ghifary, Ph.D. explained the “Importance of Data and Analytics Governance in Enterprises.”
- Sudarto, S.E., M.B.A., Ph.D. concluded the panel session with a talk on “Best Practices in Big Data Governance in the Public Sector,” followed by an interactive Q&A session.
The event proceeded with parallel seminar sessions, where 123 selected papers were presented:
- 11 papers under the “Official Statistics” theme,
- 94 papers under “Statistical Applications,” and
- 18 papers under “Data Science.”
Awards were presented to the best presenters in each room and to the top two papers in each thematic category. The best papers will be published in the “Journal of Statistical Applications and Statistical Computing of STIS,” an accredited scientific journal indexed in SINTA 2.
